>> Now in his 80s, pianist Freddie Redd is best known for his work in the late 1950s, when he scored the play and film, The Connection. Even though he was performing regularly through the height of the hard bop movement and beyond, he was never afforded the same recognition as many other players of that era. Recently, he and Three Stars alum Brad Linde began a collaboration, the results of which will be on display tonight at Twins Jazz. The ensemble will include several great local players, including drummer Tony Martucci, bassist Tom Baldwin, and Three Stars alum Matt Rippetoe. 8 p.m. Call 202-234-0072 for cover information.

>> Guitar whiz Stanley Jordan gave an impressive performance last summer with his trio. He’ll set up shop on Thursday at Blues Alley to kick off a four night stand of solo performances. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Thursday night, Serbian guitar virtuoso Goran Ivanovic leads Eastern Blok at Twins Jazz. The group blends traditional Balkan melodies with the improvisational elements of jazz. >> Saxophonist Stephen Riley is one of the swingin-est players around. His performances as a sideman include playing with Wynton Marsalis, Norah Jones, and Bobby McFerrin. Riley will lead his own group this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets to the 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets are $18.

>> Guitarist Alex Pinto seamlessly blends modern jazz, North Indian Classical Music and the rock sound of his youth into his powerful compositions. Pinto will be performing this Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz, and his band will include saxophone heavyweight Paul Carr, Tom Baldwin on bass, and Brooklyn drummer Andrew Munsey. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $15.
