We’re getting tantalizingly close to confirming that the house for MTV’s The Real World is, in fact, in Dupont Circle. We had heard numerous tips that 2000 S Street NW was the place, but without much solid evidence to back those claims. Yesterday afternoon, we walked over the much-talked about house, which is located at the corner of 20th and S. There were construction people working on the exterior — when asked what was going on there, one worker said “we’re building a house, I dunno who lives there.” When asked if it was related to MTV, he frowned.

DCist then popped in at the TD Commerce bank next door, which happened to be open. A teller said that yesterday a woman from the cleaners just south of the house on S Street said that “[MTV] were moving in.”

There were a number of men working on the house, and two white vans were parked outside, including one rental van. Parking meters around the house on both S and 20th Streets had red bags over them with signs featuring a DC flag, reading “No Parking/Car will be towed/24 hours a day/7 days a week/without permit” featuring no expiration. The signs didn’t resemble the usual temporary No Parking signs, which we see put up in advance of big events around town — they appear to be more permanent.

The house itself is quite large, taking up the entire corner, and has entrances on both streets. The basement and first floor windows have brown paper covering them, and there were a few signs for the construction company, but that’s about it. Windows on the upper levels of the property were uncovered, but little could be ascertained as to what was inside from street level. Additionally, a very large satellite antenna had been set up on the roof of the building.

Be sure to check back this week for updates as we gather further information.
