Al FrankenComedian, radio talk show host, and now it seems after all this time, United States Senator. The Minnesota Supreme Court today declared Democrat Al Franken the winner of his U.S. Senate race against Republican Norm Coleman.
The decision appears to finally clear the way for the Senate to seat Franken, concluding a protracted legal battle over the outcome of an incredibly tight race. Should Franken join the Senate, the Democrats would also gain a 60-seat majority, making much of the party’s agenda filibuster-proof.
We’re also certainly curious to see how Franken’s previous career as an entertainer might affect his comings and going around Washington – would you be excited to bump into him at a restaurant? Plenty of actors have served in the chamber, including former presidential candidate Fred Thompson.
