MUSIC: Held in conjunction with the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, some of D.C.’s finest hip-hop artists will be at Liv tonight to celebrate the life and musical legacy of Detroit-born emcee/producer James “J. Dilla” Yancey, who died from complications of Lupus. Slated to appear are Kev Brown, Kaimbr, and Three Stars alum Wayna, among others. Phife from A Tribe Called Quest and Grap Luva (Pete Rock’s brother) will play host while J. Dilla’s mother (Maureen Yancey) and younger brother (Illa J) will be in attendance. Free (donation to Maureen Yancey Fund suggested), 9 p.m.

MUSIC: The Wilco/Conor Oberst extravaganza at Wolftrap tonight is totally sold-out, but you’ve still got a couple hours to give ol’ Craig a try. 8 p.m.

MOVIE: Can’t get in to see Wilco? Head over to NoMa for the next best thing: NOMA Summer Screen is showing I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, the great documentary about the tumultuous time the band had making Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Things get started at 7 p.m. at the New York Avenue Metro station, and we hear the Fatback DJs will be kicking the night off with a Michael Jackson tribute. Free.

MUSIC: We highly recommend the Japandroids, who’ll bring their catchy, fuzzy noise rock to DC9 tonight. With Slim Twig and Tennis System. Show at 9 p.m., $8 at the door.
