ART: Tonight’s Phillips After 5 at the The Phillips Collection will feature a performance of Mortified at 6:30 p.m., featuring adults who relive their troubled childhoods and attempt to find some solace in the act. You’ll also find live music, gallery talks, wine and snacks, and of course, all the art in the museum, all for the price of admission.

MOVIE: Riverfront Reel‘s outdoor movie selection tonight is the lovable Tom Hanks-as-a-kid romp, Big. The free screening starts at sundown, but get there early for free ’80s themed candy, including wax lips and Pixy Stix. At Tingey Plaza, near the Navy Yard Metro stop.

JAZZ: Pianist/vocalist Freddy Cole, brother of Nat “King” Cole, kicks off a four-night stand at Blues Alley tonight. 8 and 10 p.m. sets run through Sunday. Tickets are $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

MUSIC: Solid local line-up at the Black Cat backstage tonight. Olivia Mancini & the Mates, The Oscillating Fan Club and The Beanstalk Library will take the stage starting at 9 p.m., all for only $8.

LECTURE: Calling all Adaptation fans. Visit with Smithsonian Orchid Collection Specialist Tom Mirenda tonight for an illustrated lecture which will focus on orchid conservation and how plant and animal conservationists must collaborate. Get there at 6:30 p.m. to meet and mingle (and grab a drink at the cash bar), then stay for the lecture at 7:30 p.m, both at the National Zoo’s visitor center auditorium. Free, but reservations are required.
