Personally, I’ve always found the NFL preseason to be little more than a waste of time.
New Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, obviously, thinks otherwise. The gigantic mountain of a man laid a lick on Tom Brady (video here) during last night’s exhibition loss against New England, squishing his shoulder between his 350 pound frame and the FedEx Field turf. Brady — who missed all of last season with a busted knee — got up gingerly and didn’t play another down last night, which seems about right after an enormous man runs your body into the ground. Brady was diagnosed with a sore shoulder.
Haynesworth was adamant that he wasn’t trying to hurt the model quarterback, calling himself “a big Tom Brady fan.” Of course, Bostonian fans — obviously still smarting from a season without pretty boy behind center — see things otherwise. But lest you think that Haynesworth feels bad about the hit, here’s what he had to say about it:
“If I had to hit him again, I would hit him again. That’s my job, that’s what they brought me here to do.”
I have a feeling that this guy is going to fit in pretty well around these parts.
