D.C. Council member Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) has been hospitalized for dehydration, the Post is reporting this morning. Barry did not show up for the Council’s Tuesday morning legislative session, at which point word finally came down from Bernadette Tolson, his chief of staff, that the councilman was admitted to Howard University Hospital at 3 a.m. this morning.

Barry underwent kidney transplant surgery earlier this year. WTOP’s Mark Segraves reports via his Twitter feed that Barry’s doctor says that the councilman and former mayor “continues to recover successfully” from his kidney transplant. His illness prevented Barry from being present for the introduction of a bill that proposes to legalize same-sex marriage in the District. Barry is one of only three D.C. Council members who is a not a co-introducer of the bill.
