>> In 1957, celebrated French film maker Louis Malle directed Ascenseur pour l’échafaud (Elevator to the Gallows), for which he commissioned Miles Davis to score the film. Three Stars alum Thad Wilson will recreate this experience on Thursday at HR-57, where his group will perform live with a screening of the film. 7 p.m. $10

>> Pianist Joe Sample has spent four decades on the jazz scene, initially making his name as a member of the Jazz Crusaders. He’ll bring his mix of jazz, blues, and gospel to Blues Alley for a four night stand beginning on Thursday. Tickets to the nightly 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $43 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
