JAZZ: In 1957, Miles Davis was commissioned to produce the score to the film Ascenseur pour l’échafaud (Elevator to the Gallows); tonight, Three Stars alum Thad Wilson recreates this experience tonight at HR-57, where his group will perform live alongside a screening of the film. 7 p.m., $10.

ART: Over at Flashpoint, stop by the opening reception for Pacguy, an exhibit featuring new work by artist Kenny George, the highlight of which is a cocktail-style arcade game that borrows its format from Pacman. The reception runs from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., after which, there will be a free performance of Solas Nua’s Disco Pigs in the Mead Theater.

Yinka Shonibare’s midcareer survey of his work opens at the National Museum of African Art next week, but tonight, Shonibare will be at the Hirshhorn’s Meet the Artist event to talk about “politics, identity and cultural authenticity in a postcolonial world,” 7 p.m., free.

LECTURE: Author, biologist, and Animal Planet/Travel Channel host Jeff Corwin reads from his new book, 100 Heartbeats: The Race to Save Earth’s Most Endangered Species, tonight at the National Museum of Natural History‘s Baird Auditorium. 6:45 p.m., tickets are $25.
