We were a little late to this one, but when a press release hit our inbox about Muhsinah, we had to spread the word. The Three Stars and Unbuckled 7 alumna was nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Urban/Alternative Performance” category for her work on the track, “Daykeeper.” The song is found on the album Leave It All Behind by two–time DCist interviewees, The Foreign Exchange. She and the guys are up against collaborations by Robert Glasper & Bilal (“All Matter”), India.Arie & Dobet Gnahore (“Pearls”) and Eric Roberson, Ben O’Neill & Michelle Thompson (“A Tale of Two”), as well as solo artist Tonex (“Blend”).
Making things even sweeter for the homegrown artist, Common’s album, Universal Mind Control, was nominated in the “Best Rap Album” category; Muhsinah provided vocals on the LP’s cut, “Changes.”
The Grammy Awards will be broadcast on January 31, 2010. Congrats and good luck to Muhsinah! The video for “Daykeeper” is below:
