As we settle back into the post-holiday doldrums, the traditionally thin mid-winter touring schedule has left this week’s agenda predictably light.
TUESDAY
>> Local collective Spelling for Bees, who recently tried their hand at a guilty pleasure night, now tackle the wild and woolly world of SaturdayMorning Cartoons at The Velvet Lounge. $5, 7:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> Though 2008’s high-profile reunion tour gave the world another dose of Swervedriver, singer Adam Franklin has kept busy. His current outfit, appropriately titled Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody, are a bit more reserved but the intensity (and volume) remains. Local mainstay J. Robbins, fresh off his NBC-sponsored close up, is back in business with a new project, Office of Future Plans. Locals The Jet Age get things started at DC9. $10, 9 p.m.
>> Their fresh faced guitar rock has made the group a fan favorite, inspiring a rabid base and an equal amount of vitriol. I am of course referring to The Jonas Brothers, whose youngest, Nick Jonas, has a new band titled Nick Jonas and The Administration. Its earnestly titled debut album, Who I Am, features members of Prince’s New Power Generation and according to Nick, is influenced by Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen. Aren’t we all? Come get a sneak peak at theWarner Theatre alongside singer-songwriter Diana Birch. Sold Out, 7 p.m.
