Yet another huge story just breaking at this moment: The Washington Post is reporting that Gilbert Arenas has been charged with with carrying a pistol without a license outside his home or business — which is a felony. As recently as yesterday, Arenas was reportedly seeking to plea bargain down to misdemeanor charges.

According to NBC4 reporter Pat Collins, the charge carries a potential sentence of up to five years, if Arenas is convicted. Arenas’ attorney had no comment as of this afternoon. The news will also certainly shine a light back onto the prognostications about whether or not the Wizards will be able to void Arenas’ $111 million contract — the NBA has a policy which allows contracts to be voided if a player is convicted or pleads guilty to any felony. Any such talk is premature until (or if, for that matter) Arenas goes to trial, but we’re sure it won’t stop anyone from thinking out loud about it.

Officials are preparing for Arenas to appear in Superior Court tomorrow to face the charges, according to the Post.
