Yvette AlexanderWard 7 D.C. Council member Yvette Alexander (D) has to have the worst luck out of all of her colleagues when it comes to crime. Back in June of 2007, she had her purse stolen while at a gas station. And now today, D.C. Wire reports that a suspected robber pulled a gun on her Wednesday afternoon.
Alexander said she was driving by when she saw a MetroAccess driver laying facedown on the sidewalk, with two men standing over him. When she stopped to ask if everything was all right, one of the two men pulled out a gun and said, “keep it moving.” The Councilwoman then drove on, called 911, and eventually circled back around only to find the two suspects were already gone.
Being a politician, Alexander tells the Post she’s considering using this experience to hold a hearing on emergency response. She was unhappy with her 911 experience, saying that the response time was inadequate and that the firefighters and police who eventually did appear on the scene had the wrong information.
This wouldn’t be the first time the 911 system failed to live up to a D.C. Council member’s expectations.
