Metrobuses are operating on emergency snow routes only as of about 4 p.m., although the city has yet to declare an official snow emergency.

The rule of thumb for now is to keep in mind that buses are only traveling on major roads. As always, it’s a good idea to consult NextBus before you decide to head out and wait for a bus. Metro is also reminding riders to be extra cautious when boarding or exiting a bus.

MetroAccess has canceled most of the rest of its trips for the rest of the day. MetroAccess customers who have already traveled from home can call 301-562-5360 to arrange to be picked up, but no new trips are being scheduled for the time being.

The Metrorail system is still operating on a normal schedule. We’ll continue to update as the transit system releases more information.

The latest from the National Weather Service is that snow will continue to fall until the early evening, with total accumulations reaching between 5 to 10 inches.
