The District Department of Public Works has already announced changes to its regular service schedule. All recycling collections have been canceled for next week; the department is simply asking residents to hold on to their recycling for an extra week. Trash collections will still take place, but they will be made from the front only. Residents will alley collection are asked to place their trash in dark colored plastic (not paper) bags and place the bags at the curb for collection.
The Ft. Totten Transfer Station will be closed both Saturday and Monday, and bulk trash collections have also been canceled for Monday.
Please don’t put your household trash in any of the city’s public litter cans. Collections from street garbage cans are suspended as of today, and won’t resume until Wednesday, Feb. 10.
In other jurisdictions, Arlington County is delaying their trash and recycling collections by one full day next week, Montgomery County’s Transfer Station will close at 5 p.m. today and stay closed until Monday, but no collection changes have been announced, and Prince George’s County has canceled all collections until Tuesday, Feb. 9.
