If there’s an event going on tonight, and probably tomorrow, too, it’s going to be canceled. A few folks are insisting their weekend gigs are still on, so read below for opportunities to get out of the house, but check again before you leave to be doubly sure it hasn’t been postponed.
>> First, a hearty congrats to Dana Ellyn and Matt Sesow, who, despite blizzard conditions Friday night, went ahead with their wedding (and opening reception) at Long View Gallery. There’s a nice piece in the Post today about the couple and their work.
>>The Hirshhorn dives into their extensive collection of Josef Albers’ abstract paintings to present 50 years of work in Innovation and Inspiration, opening tomorrow. Please note that tomorrow’s lecture on the exhibit has been canceled.
>> 150 years ago, Timothy H. O’Sullivan used a heavy, large-format camera and boxes of glass-plate negatives to photograph the American West. See the Library of Congress’ collection of his work in the new exhibit, Framing the West, displayed at the Smithsonian American Art Museum starting Friday.
>> Some of our favorite young artists are opening in the group show On/Off the Grid at Irvine Contemporary, including Amy Lin, Courtney Jordan, and Molly Springfield. Reception Saturday, 6 to 8 p.m.
>> The Pink Line Project and Civilian Art Projects are teaming up to throw the alternative Valentine’s Day party, Hearts & Skulls, at the Capitol Skyline Hotel Lounge, featuring Fatback DJs, free pizza, drink specials and horror movies. Friday, 8 p.m. to midnight. $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
