Rep. Eliot Engel and his all-knowing mustache.
Hey look! A New York newspaper got a bunch of New York politicians to say that New York is better than D.C. You don’t say!
If you hadn’t guessed already, the story, penned by the Daily News’ Michael Mcauliff, concerns how we deal with snow versus New Yorkers, who are SUPER HARDCORE AND S**T, DID YOU KNOW? Here’s a taste:
“Wimp is the word, let me tell you,” said Bronx Rep. Eliot Engel. “In New York, I think I can count on one hand all the time they’ve closed the schools for my kids or even for me and my wife. Yet in D.C., there only has to be a threat of snow and they’re closing the schools for a week.”
The government – and most offices in the nation’s capital – closed after a half-day of work last Friday, with a blizzard bearing down that dumped more than 30 inches in some locations, though less in town.
Three days later, it was still a mess on main business drags. “The other night I was driving down K Street and it looked liked the far side of the moon,” said Engel. “In New York, there’s no way that would happen. It’s like night and day.”
With even President Obama acknowledging the Snowmageddon, looks like there’s a new mayor of Flintytown! Let’s all welcome Rep. Eliot Engel to the list of members of Congress who are in danger of getting a sincere beating the next time they walk down the streets of the District. And that’s a long list.
Who else thinks they’re better than us? Rep. Mike McMahon, who spoke about D.C.’s “different mindset” and tendency toward “panic.” Notice how we’re linking to these guys’ web sites so that you may email them! Major props to Rep. Jose Serrano, however, for giving D.C. some credit, telling the Daily News: “But when you get this much snow, I don’t care who you are. They handled it pretty well. I’m pretty impressed.”
