Along with an epically frustrating commute home, it looks like Friday is being remembered by D.C. Public Schools teachers as a huge waste of time.

Classes for students on Friday had been canceled long in advance of the Snowmageddon, thanks to a planned professional development day for teachers — the exact sort of training session that has been at the center of Chancellor Michelle Rhee’s plan for reforming the school district. So along with the rest of the D.C. government, when they were summoned back on Friday following two snow days in a row, teachers made their way in. A few of them, anyway.

As the Examiner reports, at some schools, a whole lot of teachers just skipped out on the training, causing one principal to speculate they might have to schedule a makeup session.

If they do, let’s hope it goes better than it apparently did at DC Teacher Chic’s school. She wrote at 10:22 a.m. on Friday morning:

Fact. More than 1/2 of the teachers and the staff have called out, including the Instructional Coach.

Fact. The principal is not here yet.

Fact. There is no heat throughout the majority of the building.

Fact. The so-called professional development to be held today will not begin until sometime this afternoon.
