D.C. Public Schools released its snow make up calendar late on Friday, and while it could be worse, District students are indeed facing a dreaded lengthened school year after losing four-and-a-half days of instruction due to February’s historic snowfall.
In a letter to parents, Chancellor Michelle Rhee explained that the school district explored options including extending the school day, converting vacation days into school days, and changing the dates of DC-CAS testing, but said “none of these proved workable.”
So instead, one professional development day (Mar. 19) and one parent-teacher conference day (May 17) will be converted to instruction days, and two designated make up days (June 21 & 22) have been added to the calendar.
