Guess what’s happening in art this week? Oh yes, you know. We’ll see you at Long View Gallery this Saturday, 6 to 10 p.m. for the opening of the 2010 DCist Exposed Photography Show. Click here for more details on the fancy booze, food and music we’ll have for you. Turns out we’re also going to have a fun activity for some of our guests: our beer sponsor, Pabst Blue Ribbon, will have homemade pinhole cameras (made from recycled PBR cans, naturally) to give away to the first 100 photography lovers who visit their table at the reception. The cameras will be loaded and ready for exposure (at Exposed, har har), with directions for how to develop the paper. If you miss out on a camera, PBR will have take-home instructions on how to make your own later. Much thanks to Exposed winner Angela Kleis, who created the design and helped us build the cameras.
If you MUST visit other art shows this weekend, here’s a few to choose from:
>> G40: The Summit is a massive, Artomatic-style art show housed in five floors of a Crystal City office building. Sponsored by Art Whino and the Crystal City BID, G40 features over 500 visual and performance artists. Unlike Artomatic, this exhibit is curated, though we’re not sure how you curate a show with over 500 artists and don’t get essentially the same thing. Go see if we’re wrong: the exhibit opens today at 5 p.m. with food and wine until 8 p.m. and live painting until 10 p.m. Their grand opening party is this Saturday, 8 p.m. to midnight. Check out the G40 site for daily hours and events through the month-long show.
>> What’s better than opening an art gallery on H Street NE? Opening two, of course. The folks behind the recently opened Studio H will have their grand opening for City Gallery just a few blocks down the road. The gallery plans to promote affordable, accessible art, and currently represents 20 artists, all of whom will have their work shown in the first exhibit. Reception Saturday, 6 to 9 p.m.
