Maryland 79, Duke 72: You only live once, so storm that court. (All those that had Maryland with 12 wins in the ACC before the season, feel free to step forward.) More on this game tomorrow, if our regular Maryland contributor Brett Gellman can find his way around the, erm, spirited celebrations around College Park this evening.

Capitals 3, Sabres 1: I, possibly like many of you, just spent two weeks furiously rooting on Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller as he turned in one of the most entertaining goaltending hot streaks in recent memory: an MVP performance while leading the United States to the silver medal. If anything, it reinforced my hope that the Capitals can manage to avoid a potentially hot Miller and the Sabres come playoff time. Washington beat Miller last night, but it certainly took a whole lot of work. Mike Green and Jason Chimera beat Miller on 39 total shots and added an empty netter to ice a 3-1 win in Buffalo last night. Caps goalie Jose Theodore didn’t have quite so much work to do, but he one-upped Miller, stopping 23 shots to get the win. The game was understandably a little touch-and-go at times, it being the first game back from vacation for some and the Olympics for others, but the Caps seemed to get back into the thick of things pretty well. Washington now comes home for five straight home games, plenty of time to get all the new faces they picked up today into the fold.

Bucks 100, Wizards 87: Andray Blatche had a decent game (18 points, 9 rebounds) and was the only Washington player to log more than a half-hour on the floor. The Wizards couldn’t defend a basic offensive set play; on this night, it was the pick and roll. Randy Foye showed flashes, but has still remains an inconsistent commodity as he grows as a player. Nick Young can’t shoot, and Earl Boykins repeatedly makes poor decisions. Washington was generally got out-talented by a mediocre team that will probably make the playoffs. Now wash, rinse, and repeat 24 more times until the end of the season.
