The health care reform bill that passed finally late last night has got to be a source of inspiration for the tens of thousands of immigrants and their supporters who marched on the National Mall yesterday. The Washington Post reports the event was packed: the largest since the 2006 rallies.
Immigrants too seek reform — specifically to the laws governing the nation’s immigration system and the welfare of its nearly 11 million illegal immigrants. President Obama has promised to address immigration reform, though it still feels a ways off; having just pushed through health care, the White House also intends to address financial regulation, climate legislation, and education reform — possibly all of these things before it turns to immigration. Still, at least one item’s been marked off the list. As Jay-Z put it, on to the next one.
With Saturday’s tea party and anti-war march, Sunday’s immigration rally, and finally a post–tea party anti–health care rally late yesterday, the DCist Flickr pool is chock full of protest photos — silly and inspiring. Visitors in town for these events saw the best weather the city has seen so far this year. Here’s hoping that weather comes back soon, so some of the rest of us can get some time on the Mall.
