After four decades of decline, enrollment in the D.C. public school system is pretty much holding steady, as Bill Turque reports in the Post. A new audit from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education indicates a loss of only 241 students since last year, for a total enrollment of 44,467, a less than one percent decline. For comparison’s sake, DCPS enrollment decreased by 5 percent in 2007, 8 percent in 2008 and 8 percent in 2009. Public charter school enrollment increased by 7.8 percent over last year, from 25,614 to 27,617. Across the District, 72,406 students are currently enrolled in public and public charter schools, a 2.5 percent increase.
