FDR’s New Deal. LBJ’s Great Society. Courtesy of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic allies in the House and Senate — and, arguably, with an assist from an obstructionist Republican minority, who forced the Democrats to go hard or go home — the United States can add BHO’s health care reform to the ranks of historic progressive leaps forward for the welfare state.

But #hcr is an underwhelming name for the most important piece of federal legislation in decades, is it not? Fortunately, a title has emerged that captures both the profundity and profanity of the debate that led to health care: the BFD of 2010. For that, we have one man to thank.
