Locations of the sweeps will not be announced in advance, but officials say Metro Transit Police officers will be highly visible throughout the day. The increased security presence is in addition to the emergency response drill that was already planned for RFK this morning.
Acting Metro Transit Police Chief Jeri Lee said in a statement that heightened security measures will be in place “at least through the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit scheduled in Washington in a few weeks.” The summit is planned for April 12 and 13 at the Washington Convention Center.
