METRO Alerts reports that a person has been struck by a train at Mt. Vernon Square. Green and Yellow Line trains are currently sharing the same track between Mt. Vernon Square-Convention Center and Shaw-Howard University while emergency crews access the tracks. Expect delays in both directions on those lines. More soon. 1:51 p.m. WMATA has closed the Mt. Vernon Square station for the time being. Shuttle service around the closure has been requested, but in the meantime, don’t count on being able to enter or exit at the station.

More from Metro’s press release and D.C. Fire/EMS: a woman was struck by a Branch Avenue-bound Green Line train at about 1:18 p.m. She has been removed from the tracks and transported to a nearby hospital with what are being described as life threatening, traumatic injuries.

The Mt. Vernon Square station remains closed as of about 2:20 p.m. The Yellow Line is currently split into two segments and is operating from Huntington to Gallery Place and from Shaw-Howard U to Fort Totten. The Green Line also is operating in two segments, from Branch Avenue to Gallery Placeand from Greenbelt to the Shaw-Howard U. Major delays continue on both lines. WMATA is recommending using Metrobus routes 70, 71 or 79 to get around the closure.

Metro says its preliminary investigation shows that the woman intentionally placed herself in the path of the train.

UPDATE: 2:35 p.m. The Mt. Vernon Square station has reopened, but trains continue to single-track through the station.

UPDATE: 4:10 p.m. Both tracks at Mt. Vernon Sq. are now back open.
