Photo by Mr. T in DCWMATA announced Thursday that Metro’s board of directors is at last backing a plan to let SmarTrip card holders access their account information online. The board gave preliminary approval to the concept at its regular meeting this week.
Currently, users can register their cards online in order to replace a lost card without losing the card’s value (minus a $5 fee).
If the plan is approved by WMATA’s full board later this month, customers will also be able to track Metro expenses via the web. Cardholders will not, however, be able to add value to their cards online just yet. WMATA is still considering adding that option with further online changes in the future.
The new online account information would be available July 2010.
