Rumors have been swirling for some time regarding D.C. United’s plans to host multiple international friendlies this summer at RFK Stadium; all we knew as of this morning was that the club had promised that the visiting team or teams would be of world class quality. On that criteria and to this point, you have to say that the team delivered. United will host Italian behemoth AC Milan at RFK Stadium on May 26. Kickoff for the first ever meeting between the two clubs will be at 8 p.m.

While one imagines that several of Milan’s squad — including American and Washington D.C. native Oguchi Onyewu, if he’s fit — will be occupied with national team duties in advance of this June’s World Cup, it is believed that some marquee names, like Ronaldinho and Clarence Seedorf (both of whom are currently on the fringes of the Brazilian and Dutch setups, respectively) will be on display for us to gawk at. Milan toured the States last year, squaring off against Chelsea in Baltimore. United has indicated that they hope to bring at least two more well-known European clubs to town this summer; if that proves true, it could certainly be a summer of tasty treats for the D.C. football enthusiast.
