>> Anacostia is a good place to soak up some art this week. Friday, stop by the Gallery at Vivid Solutions for a happy hour with artist Brad Ulreich and see his ongoing show La Femme da Vine, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, join the Honfleur and Vivid Solutions staff on an art walk to visit their two galleries, ARCH Training Center, the new open space at 1922 MLK (old American Poetry Museum), Big Chair Coffee and Grill, and the Frederick Douglas House. 3 p.m., free, but RSVP to arts@archdc.org. And finally, on Saturday night check out “Alice in Anacostia,” a fashion show fundraiser at Honfleur organized by local designer Dana Greaves to support r.e.e.l. (River East Emerging Leaders). 7:30 p.m., get your tickets in advance.

>> Congrats to the Sitar Arts Center (which we visited last year), celebrating their 10 year anniversary with their very first student solo exhibit. Seventeen-year old Angel Perez, now a student at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, has been attending classes at Sitar during its entire run, honing her talents in painting, printmaking, and found object sculpture, and winning the District of Columbia Congressional Art Awards in 2009. See her work featured in Fatal Fantasy: La Melodia de la Calle at the reception tonight, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

>> Look out for some new artwork popping up around town: a series of 100 hands sculpted by Peter Krsko of the Albus Cavus collective, who’s hoping they’ll inspire you to raise your own hand for D.C. voting rights. Four sculptures in the Give Me A Vote project were installed, one in each quadrant, yesterday morning, with the other 96 taking their spots around town over the next month.

>> “Pop-up” is the new buzzword, and the Cultural Development Corporation is embracing it fully. This Monday five 10′ x 10′ spaces around D.C. will be converted into art installations in response to one of five keywords: live, work, play, create or connect. The collaboration of artists, architects and developers is an inspired way to bring creative spaces to the public. Keep up with all the teams’ work on their blog. See each space through May 1, located at ‘U Street Hotel’ (13th & U, NW), The Moderno (12th & U, NW), Artspace Brookland Lofts (8th & Kearney, NE), Loree Grand (3rd & K, NE), and Crystal City (2121 Crystal Drive). Get tickets to the Pop-Up Gala on May 1 at Long View Gallery here.
