Popular car-sharing company Zipcar is increasing the rates it charges customers in Washington, D.C. who rent vehicles over the weekend.

In an email Thursday to D.C. customers, Zipcar General Manager Ellice Perez explained that daily rates on the weekends would go up $10, and Fridays would also now be included as part of the weekend, effective May 21. Current daily rates, for rentals more than eight hours, range from about $75 to $105.

The weekend rate increases will only be in effect through Oct. 12, Perez wrote, which is the end of what Zipcar considers to be its peak season. The change to counting Fridays as weekend days appears to be permanent.

If your Zipcar renting habits tend more toward renting by the hour during the week, there is some good news for you: the company says it will soon be adding more cars that will be available for only $7 hour an hour, Monday though Friday.
