DCPS has organized a public memorial service for those in the community wishing to honor the memory of Brian Betts, the slain principal of Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson. The memorial will take place on Saturday, May 1 at 11 a.m. in the Cardozo Senior High School auditorium (1200 Clifton Street NW).

Separate memorials and tributes for the Shaw school community are planned for this month. On April 22, DCPS will partner with City Year to host a Day of Service for Shaw at Garnet-Patterson students in honor of Betts. And on April 29, the school will host a special memorial for students, parents and staff. Those events are not open to the public.

And as the Post shared yesterday, Betts’ family and friends have invited the public to join them at a visitation tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Pierce Funeral Home (9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA). A funeral service and burial planned for Thursday are private.
