First opening its doors in 1910, 100 Years at the National Museum of Natural History explores the Museum’s history through documentary photographs of important milestones—from laying the cornerstone for the building to modern DNA and genomic research. >> Beat Memories: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg opened at the National Gallery of Art on Sunday. The exhibit includes 79 photographs by the poet, including his portraits of Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs and the counterculture generation.
>> This morning the Newseum rededicates its Journalists Memorial, the two-story glass structure that honors reporters who died or were killed in the pursuit of news. Christiane Amanpour will give the keynote address, where 94 names will be added to the memorial. Ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
>> Of the world’s 6.5 billion people, 90 percent have few to none of the basic necessities required for progress and survival. Design for the Other 90%, a touring exhibition from the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, opened last week at the National Geographic Museum. The exhibit presents more than 30 innovative products and solutions in the areas of water, shelter, health and sanitation, education, energy and transportation.
