Someone driving an SUV managed to crash into the rear of the Mt. Pleasant Interim Library this afternoon, damaging the rear exit of the building. D.C. Public Libraries spokesperson George Williams said the library is currently closed while authorities assess the situation.

No injuries have been reported. The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Williams said the wall near the rear entrance had been damaged by the vehicle, and that the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs was on site to determine whether the building was still safe.

The interim library, located in a storefront at 3164 Mount Pleasant St. NW, has only been open since April 19. The permanent neighborhood library closed on March 27 for extensive renovations.
