Have a good evening, Washington. Aaron will be on weekend duty, per normal, and Sommer will be back for a few days next week to wrap up her final days at DCist. It’s been fun guest editing. See you around town!
- Get the Whole Experience on Half Street for bargain-basement prices! There are so many Nats tickets available for less than $5! DCist’s favorite is a guy on Stubhub offering to sell his tickets for 66 cents.
- Dan Steinberg’s live-blogging of the National Spelling Bee has been quite wonderful. I still say the National Geography Bee deserves greater respect.
- At-Large D.C. Councilmember Kwame Brown, should he be elected D.C. Council chairman, said that he’ll give Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry a committee chairmanship. Reports DeBonis: “Not because the ex-four-term-mayor might have redeemed himself, but because under a Brown chairmanship, everyone gets a committee. That has been the practice under Vincent C. Gray (save, of course, for Barry, post-censure).”
- Meanwhile, the City Paper gives Vincent Gray some advice on how to neutralize any efforts by Mayor Adrian Fenty to tie the D.C. Council chairman to the ugly days of the early 1990s and then-Mayor Sharon Pratt. Our favorite: “Turn the critique into a compliment: ‘So my former boss lost the Redskins. Big deal! Thanks to us, D.C. doesn’t have to call itself the home to Daniel Snyder!'”
- The Examiner, using an ever-so sinister iPhone app, discovers that gay men work in the corridors of power in the nation’s capital! Who knew? MetroWeekly responds.
