Yesterday, we said good-bye to Sommer, who has been a terrific Lead Editor for DCist these past three years. Today, we’re excited to announce that your new editor will be a familiar face — Aaron Morrissey, who has been DCist’s Sports Editor and one of its Weekend Editors.
Aaron came to Washington by way of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a degree in creative nonfiction. He joined the DCist ranks in 2007, soon settling in to a comfortable niche covering metro area transit and D.C. United — not to mention pouring through hundreds of your comments during a long stint as the aggregator behind the weekly comment roundup. In 2008, Aaron began manning the desk on Saturdays and Sundays, where he was privy to covering the Obama Inauguration and both a Snowpocalypse and a Snomgasm/Snowmaggeddon. Finally, since he obviously didn’t have enough on his plate, he assumed the controls of our sports coverage several months ago, making sure that our pages were rarely without a post involving Alexander Ovechkin, some kind of soccer, or, more recently, Stephen Strasburg.
While he’s not a native Washingtonian, we assure you, loyal readers: Aaron is just as obsessed with dog-snatching, bikes, Metro incompetency, Grahamstanding, photos with feet in them, the vagaries of traveling to concerts in a pouring rain and everything else that has made DCist into the trusted, communal information source it is today.
Aaron will be starting in a couple of weeks, but until then, DCist will still be going strong. Send questions/suggestions to tips@dcist.com. And if you’re interested in contributing to DCist, let us know!
