Metrobus driver Venton Mickens, a 15-year WMATA veteran, stands accused of assaulting a passenger over bus fare. (Look, I already know where you’re going with this and no, it wasn’t the McGruff guy.) Metro Transit Police are investigating the incident and Mickens has been placed on administrative leave. WJLA reports that early on Friday morning, Mickens assaulted a customer — who suffered minor injuries, but refused medical treatment — aboard a 71 bus as it sat at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Van Buren Streets NW. Mickens’ regulars are plum surprised that such a “[r]eal easygoing” driver would ever accost someone. Though the “someone must’ve pushed the wrong button this morning” has us wondering — what button, exactly, does a customer push to spur such an (alleged) assault?
