Looting a beloved restaurant is bad enough; looting one that’s just been gutted by a fire is even worse. But that’s exactly what happened to the Argonaut over the Independence Day weekend. City Paper’s Rend Smith reports that last weekend, thieves broke into the downstairs jukebox and bar cabinets, and then did a pretty sloppy job of covering their tracks, leaving fingerprints all over the place. But the best part of the story? The looters broke the bar’s gumball machine in order to take all of the quarters inside. I’m attempting to stay impartial here, but you’re going to have a hard time convincing me that these criminals weren’t absolutely sloshed out of their minds while they were looting the place. Seriously, how much money could you possibly get from a gumball machine?
