Football’s here! By which, I mean lots of rain and rapid-fire updates about whether or not a disgruntled defensive lineman — who’s still making truckloads of cash — was in shape to complete a physical examination which may or may not have just been a subtle way for his new head coach to punish him for holding out on offseason workouts are here. Whoooooo! I’m counting down the minutes until the meaningless preseason starts, aren’t you?
The Redskins opened up training camp yesterday, and the big news was that Albert Haynesworth is still kinda out of shape. (I think.) Reports had previously indicated that Haynesworth — who, let’s be honest, wasn’t the sveltest guy in town or anything — had arrived at camp with a slimmed-down figure, but the lineman — who just got a huge $21 million bonus payment from the team, mind you — couldn’t even pass the team’s initial physical test.
Well, kind of. First he “killed it.” Then he didn’t. If the guy had taken part in offseason workouts, he could have saved himself the trouble. Then again, when you gotta go, you gotta go.
