The City Paper’s Loose Lips picked up a good scoop today: New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be in the District tomorrow to endorse Mayor Adrian Fenty for re-election. According to the Post, Bloomberg will grant his endorsement at Carmine’s, the new Italian eatery in Gallery Place.

That Bloomberg would side with Fenty in this year’s mayoral contest isn’t particularly surprising. After all, Fenty has long styled himself a Bloomberg-type reformer, mayoral bullpen and all. Additionally, without Bloomberg and New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, we may not have gotten mayoral control of D.C. schools and Chancellor Michelle Rhee.

It seems less clear what Bloomberg’s endorsement will bring to the tight race between Fenty and D.C. Council Chair Vince Gray, though. Sure, he might make the folks already leaning towards Fenty a little more comfortable with their choice, but he isn’t likely to swing many undecideds or convince Gray partisans to re-consider. He will give Fenty a nice photo op, though, and we wouldn’t be surprised to hear Bloomberg extol on Fenty’s ability to deliver results.
