Photo by BravoSometimes headlines write themselves; this is one of those instances. Between lawsuits from caterers, landscapers and PR firms, apparently Tareq and Michaela Salahi are losing the clothes right off their backs.
According to the Washington Post, Michaela Salahi, one-half of the stealth White House-crashing twosome, plans to auction off her infamous red sari, worn to the state dinner for India, next month — Jedi powers not included. Auctioneers conservatively estimate that the dress will garner $2,000 to $3,000. Pricey, but not fetching as much as other iconic dresses and gloves. Unfortunately for the Salahis’ creditors, 80% of the auction’s profits will be donated to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund and another unnamed local charity.
On the other hand, neither charity should rely on the donations. At a charity party last month at the now-closed EFN Lounge, the Salahis raised no money for the Dab the AIDS Bear Project and the Honor & Remember charity. The Washington Blade reports that 40% of profits were to be set aside for each organization, but come pay-day, the event wasn’t found to be profitable. Although tickets ranged from $25 to $500, no profits were raised because organizers had comped most of the tickets for press and their friends, according to the then lounge manager. There was no comment from the Salahis, but event organizers wrote in an email to the charities that, “though this event wasn’t financially successful for the charity organizations involved, we feel that it was still a huge success media-wise shedding a national spotlight on your organization.”
And in a gracious third act of generosity to mankind, Salahi is on the docket to pose fully nude in Playboy later this month, according to TMZ. Playboy has not yet determined whether Salahi will land a spot on the cover, though is it surprising that she would “love it” and is “very excited” for the shoot?
Nine months ago DCist asked if we were all Salahied out. Apparently Michaela Salahi will be answering that question for us for months to come. Just hold your breath when the Salahis finally jump the shark and it all goes downhill from there.
