We’ve been focusing so much on the potential effects of high turnout, but perhaps we should have been prognosticating the potential negative effects of voters being unable to vote. The City Paper reports that Vince Gray is none too pleased about this morning’s equipment snafus, several of which are happening at polling places in Ward 7, a Gray stronghold. According to Madden, Gray — who is “fired up” about the issues — called the failure of touch-screen voting machines this morning “abject incompetence,” and wondered “how many voters have we lost as a result of this incompetence?” The challenger’s camp says that around 50 people were turned away from the Davis Elementary School precinct this morning; we’ve also heard stories from individuals who claim to have been turned away from other polling places across the city because staff did not know how to register them properly. Alan Suderman tweets that the Gray camp may ask BOEE for extended voting hours.
