It was just a week ago that four ACC teams were ranked in the polls. Now? Only Miami (FL) remains. At least Miami put up a respectable fight against national title contender Ohio State, inside the Horseshoe no less. The same, however, cannot be said for Virginia Tech. To say that the Hokies have had a rough couple of weeks would be a severe understatement.
I won’t get into all the minutiae of how the Hokies were supposed to be the savior of the conference this season. But after last week’s stunning loss to James Madison, Beamer Ball is no longer a trending topic.
This brings us to our upcoming matchup: Maryland at West Virginia.
The Terps have become the unsung heroes of the conference for one reason — they’re actually winning. Maryland snagged a dramatic 17-14 win over Navy on Labor Day, and swiftly took care of business against Morgan State just five days later in a 62-3 thrashing. Sure, it was Morgan State, but it was refreshing to see the Terps do something they had a whole lot of trouble doing last year: score. (Plus, feel free to ask any Blacksburg resident their opinion on lower division opponents.)
