Well, it looks like some Maryland criminals are back to threatening people with machetes again. TBD has the details on two incidents in which a long blade was used to injure or intimidate someone. In the first, four men approached another man outside of a Giant in Long Branch, and one proceeded to hit him with the handle of the machete while demanding his wallet — the blade-wielder then cut the man after he handed it over; in the second incident, “several machete-wielding suspects chased [a] victim before they got into three cars and drove away.”
Sounds like we’re going into the way back machine to 2005. Back then, the machete was “becoming the weapon of choice to strike fear, seek revenge and sustain general inter-gang blood feuds,” according to DCist founder Mike Grass. I guess its now become a weapon of choice for general criminal activities too — the trend has even begun to seep into Virginia. (I lay the blame for this solely on you, Robert Rodriguez.)
