While their tax brackets and passport stamps have increased from worldwide touring, Thievery Corporation’s Eric Hilton and Rob Garza have maintained their D.C. style through fourteen years and five albums. They celebrated this milestone last week with the release of their first greatest hits collection, It Takes A Thief.
“We just wanted to have that one definitive document. It Takes a Thief is it,” Garza said. “We feel like it’s a great look back for some, and for others, an excellent introduction to our sound. These tracks are some of our favorite moments.”
Songs they picked as the cream of their crop include the hit track “Lebanese Blonde” (featuring the late jazz chanteuse Pam Bricker), and the previously unreleased “The Passing Stars.” Thievery’s set at last weekend’s Virgin Free Fest looked to showcase more of the musical blends that comprise Thievery’s “outernational sound.”
