Most of us at DCist are really plugged in to transit issues, and so we’re always excited when WMATA asks us for our opinions — especially when the transit agency goes all high-tech and conducts a survey online. The latest survey (located here) asks riders how often they use different modes of transportation, where they get on and off of Metrorail and Metrobus and what times of the day they ride. It also asks a lot of questions about Blue Line rerouting and the Dulles expansion.

A bulk of the questionnaire, though, is concerned with how WMATA could better serve its customers when it comes to information sharing. There’s a long section that asks riders whether they would be more or less willing to consume information if WMATA upped its presence on Twitter, through text messages or new signage inside stations, to name a few.

So it’s kind of interesting that this is the message that I got this morning when I clicked over to take the survey:

Thank you for your interest in this survey. Unfortunately, we have filled our quotas for this particular survey for respondents meeting your characteristics. However, we do appreciate your willingness to participate. Please close your browser window.

My characteristics, eh? There were some rumors floating around that WMATA might have been capping users of certain browsers or operating systems. But it turns out that it was a totally unexpected issue which caused the survey to go down — WMATA spokesperson Ron Holzer told us that he similarly couldn’t access the survey this morning, and that WMATA isn’t sure what the problem was. The survey has now reopened, though, so go, tell WMATA how you want your transit information.
