We’ve received a couple of tips about a notice that is apparently making its way around office inboxes in town — a memo from WMATA to “stop and identify” two suspicious individuals. But WUSA9 reports that the message was meant for WMATA employees only — and while Metro Transit Police are looking to question the people mentioned, riders should not take action without contacting the authorities.
The message itself says that those who see the individuals should contact police immediately if they see the people — but it’s worth repeating that riders should not take any rash action if they do spot the people pictured in the email. Here’s the body of the memo:
The subjects were observed at the L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station, Orange Line platform videotaping features of the station and operations of the train. Once aboard an Orange Line train to Vienna they videotaped how patrons oriented themselves within the metro rail car.
The subjects were attempting to videotape inconspicuously, by holding the camera at their side, between their chest and waist. If you come into contact with these individuals, please stop and identify, and call the Metro Transit Police Department Communications Division at (202) 962-2121.
As always, Metro asks that if people see anything suspicious in a station, train or bus, that they contact the police.
