Who Murdered Robert Wone? has the news that defense counsel for the upcoming Robert Wone wrongful death civil trial has motioned for a gag order during the proceedings. The motion cites “extensive media coverage” of the Wone criminal trial as sufficient reason for containing information during the civil trial — the motion goes on to accuse the press of “poisoning the jury pool” and also claims the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office have made “multiple inaccurate and untruthful assertions.” The Wone trial was big news in Washington, though we’d hardly call it a circus or anything. One legal source tells DCist that one of their colleagues joked that the motion should be dubbed the “Defendants’ Motion to Suspend the Constitutional Right of the Plaintiff and her counsel to comment on the exercise of Defendants’ Constitutional Right not to comment on anything.” But hey, maybe the defense just thinks that the upcoming Chandra Levy murder trial will really get the city’s blood flowing.
