Photo by alex.DC.Via Young and Hungry, it looks like Target is giving away free groceries at Union Station. The big box retailer, who will be opening a much-anticipated fresh grocery section inside its Columbia Heights store on Sunday (and, hopefully, retrofitting its beer aisle to something wider than two feet), is giving away tote bags in front of the West Hall of Union Station until 5:30 p.m. today and tomorrow. If anyone reading this works or lives near Union Station and goes to pick up one of the bags, we’d love to hear all about your haul.
My fingers are crossed that the bags will contain some produce (since that’s the kind of groceries that the store is adding and should be promoting), but the jaded realist in me recognizes that those bags are probably going to be full of Betty Crocker brownie mix, Lay’s potato chips and a 20-ounce bottle Pepsi. These kind of PR stunts don’t pay for themselves, after all. Worst case scenario: free tote bag!
UPDATE: That was quick: Twitter user johnfokeefe reports that they are handing out tomatoes and peppers for salsa. Color me impressed!
