Most of D.C.’s attention this afternoon is focused on the courtroom, as two high-profile cases move through the paces.

In the case of the Georgetown dorm room DMT lab, one of the students who was arrested on Saturday has been released, while two others are being held without bond. Georgetown student Charles Smith and University of Richmond student John Perrone are both facing federal charges on possession with intent to distribute the drug. John Romano, the other Georgetown student who was arrested, will be released without charges.

Meanwhile, the Chandra Levy murder trial is already off to an explosive start. After opening statements this morning, jurors heard testimony from Halle Shilling, who described an encounter she had with defendant Ingmar Guandique in Rock Creek Park before Levy was found dead. Shilling testified that Guandique had tracked her along the trail before attacking her. During an emotional recollection, Shilling recalled how there was “no help” and how “no one could hear” her as Guandique attacked her. Guandique is currently serving a sentence in California for his attack on Shilling and another woman.
