View Street Closures: Weekend of October 30-31, 2010 in a larger map
This weekend has the potential to be one of the busiest the District has seen in some time. There’s the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, the Marine Corps Marathon, various Halloween celebrations, Howard University’s huge homecoming celebration and parade, an outdoor battle of the bands pitting Wale against Tokyo Police Club near the National Mall and, of course, general weekend tourism and traffic. Admittedly, this information alone should be enough for Washingtonians with a vehicle to put those car keys away for the duration, but I’m sure that there were some of you who were thinking about driving to get to wherever you’re going.
You should really reconsider. Since I love a good visual aid, I’ve pieced together this (admittedly rough) map of the streets that will be closed at various points this weekend — some of them for the entire weekend (like the Chain Bridge in the upper left corner there). You can click on the lines and shapes on the map to get the official lists of closures which DDOT has released, but really, we’d recommend just strapping on some comfortable sneakers and hitting the pavement instead of even attempting to work your way around this nightmare.
